College Mentors 101
College Mentors for Kids chapters can be initiated by anyone in the community, but are most often started by university administrators or college student leaders. In each community, a partnership is created between the local college or university and elementary or middle school(s). Once college student volunteers are recruited, College Mentors for Kids provides training, program materials and support to establish the new chapter.
How do I Start a New Chapter?
If you're interested in starting a new chapter, the first step is to contact our office; send an e-mail or give us a call. A few things to know:
- It takes approximately 12 months from the initial point of contact to form a new chapter.
- Fundraising must take place before a chapter is started. It costs approximately $40,000 in the first year to start a chapter with 20 buddy pairs.
- Chapter start-ups require a committed team: at least one dedicated college student, university support, a partner school and transportation capabilities in the community.
