eli lilly & co. supports indianapolis youth mentoring with recent grant funding
August 18, 2010 | Indianapolis, INThe Eli Lilly & Company Foundation generously granted College Mentors for Kids $10,000 to support programming at Indianapolis chapters.
The grant promoted sustainability and supported programming at the five Indianapolis chapters, including Butler University, IUPUI, Ivy Tech, Marian University and University of Indianapolis. The chapters served 294 kids from the following local schools: William A. Bell Elementary, Washington Irving Elementary, Fall Creek Academy, Holy Angels Elementary, Raymond F. Brandes Elementary, Paul I. Miller Elementary and Emma Donnan Middle School.
These children spent 40 hours with consistent mentors, engaging in 20 planned and structured activities. Weekly sessions are designed to promote positive youth development, teaching kids about college life, possible careers, community service, and diversity. This comprehensive programming comes with a price tag; expenses include staff time for curriculum development, volunteer training, program evaluation and ongoing support for chapter leaders, as well as volunteer background checks, technology for staff use and marketing materials, all of which contribute to our success as a mentor program.
With this generous contribution, the Eli Lilly & Company Foundation recognizes the need for after-school programming and positive role models, which give participating kids the attention and resources they need to reach their fullest potential.
