duke energy foundation awards grant to college mentors for kids

August 18, 2010 | Indianapolis, IN

In support of continued success at the brand new University of Cincinnati chapter, the Duke Energy Foundation has donated $7,500 in grant funds to College Mentors for Kids.

Opening a new chapter is an exciting but daunting endeavor for a non-profit mentoring program; the Duke Energy Foundation significantly eased the burden for College Mentors with a $10,000 grant in 2009 to support the UC program. This year’s grant will enable the chapter to expand programming from 15 to 30 children at Rothenberg Preparatory Academy, a Cincinnati public school.

Establishing a campus and community presence is consistently one of the greatest challenges in opening a new chapter, but with a successful pilot year under its belt, the UC chapter has begun to generate clear interest among students and citizens. This will position the program for continued expansion and development in the coming years.
